The transport of fresh fruit
Information for newcomers to the industry
In their countries of origin, bananas are cut, still green, from the bush in so-called "clusters". After careful cleaning, they are packed into boxes locally. Whether bananas, pineapples or other fruit types: the fruits arrive in boxes, unconsolidated in the hold, on pallets or in refrigerated containers on the respective refrigerated vessels.
At the destination, depending on the type of fruit, stowage and port of discharge, the goods are unloaded and processed according to the customer requirements: as needed the following options are available: palletizing, immediate shipment or storage. Subsequently, the relevant customs clearance and forwarding, e.g to the banana ripening plant. From there, the fruits are delivered to the retail trade.
